Hi Folks,

I am replacing the head gaskets on the engine of my 48. I have two questions:

1. The manual recommends using "Perfect Seal Gasket Paste" when installing new head gaskets. I'm sure it's no longer available.
What would be a reasonable substitute?

2. The new gaskets are smooth on one side and have crush ridges on the other side. Does the smooth side go on the block and the crush ridges towards the heads?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Permatex makes an aerosol called Copper Spray a Gasket that is intended for cylinder head gaskets.  It is available at NAPA.

I put the ridges toward the head.
