Can anyone out there tell me if a 52 series LaSalle ignition switch and key looks anything like those found on a 1941 Cadillac.  That is looking from inside the car only.  I'm not worried about behind the dash or under the hood.   Thanks.   Paul, CLC 23300.

The ignition switchs are the same for 38 to 41 on Cadillac, Buick and LaSalle.

Correct, with a couple of exceptions. First, Buick lock cylinders for those years had a keyless non-locking cylinder, unlike any other GM division.

Second, the ignition-door lock key for the 38-41 Cadillac 60Specials had a head that was unique to those cars. Why, I have no idea why, but I have the original keys to both of my 60S cars, and that's what they were like. It's shown in the authenticity manuals.

Otherwise, I feel safe in saying that the ignition lock cylinders were the same for all GM cars from 1936 through 1947.

These locks are far more complex than has been reported. The special key (parts book calls it leaf head)for the 38-41 series 60s was also used on the 1940 series 52,62,&72.  The key blank with various head types does fit most GM 1936-66( Caddy 3550,1936-1965).
The lock cylinder (1942 book) fits 1936-40 and second type 41-42, (1960 book) 40-56.
The switch with cable (to coil)fits 39 , different 40, different 41-42 (60 book says 40-47 same). A look at my 3975 ,the lock bolts in from behind dash, whereas my 4160s has a ring in the pass compartment side. Reading between the lines would say the 40 would use the mounting ring ,if the 41 switch can be used back. But the 1942 parts book doesn't list one.Warren

Thanks,  12231, Doug, and Warren.  I have the 40 LaSalle one coming and I know whatever I get is going to be a lot better than what  I have.  Thanks again for the education.   -   Paul   -
