Serial numbers

I have recently acquired a 1941-62 series 4 door. I am new to Cadillacs. Where is the vehicle serial (VIN) number. I can easily see the data plate on the cowl. I just do not know where to find the VIN number.

Frank, the S/N is stamped very lightly on the frame near the steering-box Welcome to the CLC , if you decide to join the club,grantee it will be the best $35.00 you will ever spend . Good Luck,JIM

Jim , Thanks for the reply. I will go up to the shop today and get the numbers. Then I will try to find out about the history of this car. It is in very rough condition with a seized engine. My Intent is to restore it. I am in the dismantle phase right now.

I am sure i will post other questions as the process continues.

Jim, You were right on target, the numbers where exactly where you said they would be (and hard to read).

Body number-- 3225
Trim Number--- 31
Paint ------------- 60

ACC - says top

Is ther an easy way to decode all this?

41= 1941
62= series 62 this is next step up from series 61
19=5 pass sedan
  production 41-6219 =  8012
                 41-6219D = 7754 ( 4 door Deluxe)
                41-6219D CKD (crated for export) = 96
Total series 62 = 24,726
Total 1941 = 66,130
3225 = body number

trim 31=Blue gray Ribbed Cloth used on series 61 & 62

Paint 60 = Two tone Gray, Rivermist Gray on top (charcoal gray) and Dusty Gray on bottom ( tan color hint of gray)
ACC =none -sometimes factory install accessories are listed here by a letter or number code
top = used for color of conv top

These cars were the bread and butter of Cadillac production ,and made them the top company they are.

i have a 62 4 door fleetwood. im haveing trobles finding the vin also. i looked around the steering box. didnt find a long number but did find a -20 stamped a inch or so off the steering box. can someone help me?

For '60-'62 it is on the top of the left side bar near the radiator support.
