I would like to verify that the engine I bought with the car is a 390.  How do you identify a '59 390?  Are their any codes and where are they located?

Thanks,
Dan

Engine/serial number lower left hand side just above oil pan. Should start out with 59. Or engine unit number above the cast rib on rear portion of crankcase back of left cylinder block. Numbered parallel with the crank. Should start with 96. If you post thes numbers in full we can tell you more how it was used. Warren

The engine does not have a serial number on it...  No number that starts with 59...    But I was able to find the following numbers:

Stamped: 96K1187
Casted: 1469230
Heads: 1468025
Intake:  1472224

Thanks for your help!

Just looking at it a '59 will have the oil filter canister mounted on top left side of the engine, near the power steering pump.  1960 and later had a spin-on oil filter on the bottom right rear side of the engine.

Warren,

You were correct!  Upon further inspection I did find the serial number on lower left hand side of the engine just above the oil pan.

THANKS a bunch!
