I think if I had a 59 or 60 Eldo I would have kept my scruffy hubcaps and bought a nice mid 50's Caddy coupe or sedan for the $10,000 !!!

They went to Australia so the free shipping did not apply.  There must be some people with money down under.

There are seven 59 Biarritz's within a 1 mile radius in Sydney. I'll bet they went there.

I doubt I'd pay that much for the '57-'58 Eldorado Brougham wheels they were copied from!!!

Will it make the car they might be installed on $10,000 better?!?!?!

Just think of how much the insurance must be on the shipping.

It should be noted that they aren't hubcaps, they are wheel disks.

Walter Youshock

Duly noted.

And for $2,500 a piece, they should be platinum-plated titanium WHEEL DISKS.

they no longer make the repro's,going to sell my last set soon!!!

Gee I'm sure glad, I bought FIVE NOS Eldo caps, ( still boxed), from Ed, All Cads of the Forties, ten years ago for US$ 250 each.
They thought I was a bit mad, paying so much. They have still never been on a wheel..
I have been watching this E Bay auction with interest, I expected them to sell for about $700 each, not the price they achieved.
I believe that Mc Veys stopped making the repros is because they keep flying off, and getting wrecked.

Johnny

It has been obvious for some quite time, that the cost to be involved in the "OLD CAR"  hobby, has been going up dramatically, almost to the point that only the more affluent among us can afford to get in on the fun.  I am not preaching doom and gloom, but have been concerned about the future of the hobby for some quite time, mainly because of lack of interest in our younger people, who have not looked at cars like us that did in the 50's, 60's and 70's.  Granted that '59 parts are becoming more and more rare, and because of that, the prices are going through the roof, but how about the prices of other "garden variety" OLD CARS?  Will they also have price rises that will discourage many new enthusiasts?

Joe Manna

At $10,000,for those,I would be afraid to put them on a car.

I suspect the hot rodders will return. People will learn to make and modify parts to suit their needs.

Frame off restoration, 100 point cars will remain the realm of the moneyed, just like it is now and has been for a long time.

Yes we will always have hot rodders, but I think that term, if still used, as I think what we used to refer to as "souped up", is now "pimped out",has taken on new meaning.  It seems to me that today's "hot rodders" are more interested in having louder sound systems, ground effects, and extremely expensive wheels, in customizing their cars.

All this does is represent someone who wants their car to be NOS perfect.

How much would a good set of use caps sell for?  Couple of dings but not bad.

Recently, I bought 2 of them at $ 500.00 each, plus shipping to Switzerland. They are not perfect, but in a reasonable shape.

Good luck!
