I need verification for a freind. He is looking at a '57 Eldorado that he is being told it has the gold package and has a gold grille and gold sabres. I checked my parts manual dated up to January 1959. I can find a gold grille and a stainless grille. When I look up the sabre part numbers, there is only a part number for chrome sabres. I thought that '56 was the only year for gold sabre option and I know the '56 rims won't fit on a '57 without modification. Was there a gold package in '57 with gold sabres and my parts manual may have them obsoleted by the date of January 1959? Thanks.

I looked it up in a May 1,1957 parts book . Only the Chromium plated type were avalible (of course the series 75,CC had a heavier version). Then I looked it up in the" 1957 New Car Speciications Manual" (print date Oct1956). There was a code G , gold package. It was an optional gold grille only, in 1957 and at no cost on the Eldorado. The sabre wheels are listed as chrome and standard equipment .This should cover the whole year. Is there a "G" code listed on the body tag? Warren

Gold Sabres were offered in 1956 only.

Gold Sabers were ONLY available for 1956.  The gold grille option was a no-extra cost item for the Eldorados, as was the "Q" engine.  The gold grille was a $35.00 option on the rest of the line and the "Q" engine was NOT available on the rest of the cars, although a few may have slipped out of the factory.  The only car that came with the "Q" engine as standard in 1957 was the Series 70 Brougham.

Also, the gold trim was anodized aluminum, not 24K gold plated.

Hello,
If you wanted to use the 1956 gold wheel on the 1957, Would you have to use a spacer ? and if so, how Thick  should the spacer Be ? The other question is , if you use a spacer will the studs be long enough ?

Thanks , Bill

I don't have access to the part numbers right now, but much has been written here.  If you do a Search for "Sabre Wheels", it is probably in an older thread.

The '57-'58 wheels will work on earlier cars, but the earlier ones won't work on the later cars because of the brakes.

Actually, Stampie has a set of gold '56's on the Buy/Sell forum now:  http://www.cadillaclasalleclub.org/forum/index.php/topic,103206.0.html

I posted this to another thread, but I feel it belongs here as well:
