I am looking at a 89 cad.  convertiable conversion what ever that means. I wonder about the 4.5 motor.   Thanks Rich

Its a very close relative to the infamous HT4100. Its much debated on this board and other places.  Do a search here (or anywhere on the net) and read up then make your own decision.  I personally dont mind them.

And other assorted stuff I keep buying for some reason

The 4.5's do not have anywhere near the problems of the HT4100's.  I have owned several cars with a 4.5, never had a problem other than replacing some sensors, and normal maintenance.

Is there a name plate on the car showing who did the conversion?  Look for a plate or sticker on the driver's door jamb.

Good luck,

the conversion was done by carcraft. apparently cad. did not make a convertible that year?  car has 39k and is in nice original condition.  Do you have an idea of it's value? would appreciate any of you can give me.  Thanks        Rich

I had a '88 SDV with the 4.5L and had no issues.  Much more power than the 4100.

Cadillac did not make any factory convertibles after the 76 Eldorado, except for the 84 and 85 Eldorados, which were converted by the ASC for Cadillac.  Other notable bodybuilders were Hess and Eisenhardt, and they did some Eldorados and Coupe DeVille convertibles from 79 to about 84 also.

It's hard to put a value on the car you are looking at, I would imagine it's pretty nice with that mileage, but you have to consider the condition of the paint, interior, chrome, etc.

It's an unusual car, and not very many were made in 89, that's for sure.
