 Hi all;

   I have a Cadillac radio I am trying to identify. I was told that it should be a 1942 radio. I want to identify it correctly to sell it. I have found a photo of a 1942 series 62, & the face plate does look the same. But I am not sure if Cadillac offered more then one radio that fit the same face plate in 1942? Mine is complete with ashtray & heater control switches in the face plate. But the backing plate is missing, & I'm sure there is were I would find the info I would be looking for?

   Does any one know if Cadillac offered more then one radio that fit the same face plate, & was this radio offered only in the series 62? Also, was this radio offered in other years also???

It's sort of hard to identify the set without the back cover, but I'll try to give a clue or two.

The control face is chromium plated, with rounded corners. There are 7 push butons; 5 for preset stations. One has " ON-OFF" in its face, and the other end one has "TONE"  on it. The dial scale is in a window, about 5/8" wide by about 5 inches long. If it's a '42, the push buttons are in ivory colored plastic (and usually gone). The 1946-47 version of the identical radio has chromium plated push buttons, rather than plastic. This would be the dash  mounted set for all Cadillac series, 1942 through 1947.

The tube complement will be (from memory) (2)6SK7, 6SA7, 6SR7, (2)6V6, 0Z4.

Hope this helps.

  There were two radios used in 1942 . There should be a Delco/GM number on a tag somewhere,usally on the outside of the case.The  model 7241951 was used on all but limos, and was only a one year radio. The model 7241938 was used in 1942-46-47. It had an extra tuning head for the rear seat.The repair info says it was almost the same as Buick model 1323457, so if it is only good for parts you may have a bigger market. Warren

Hi Worrsn:
   This radio has no back cover. But it does have a tag on the side that has No.s 4749983. It has 7 buttons & two knobs. One button is off/on & one button tone. I may have it checked out my the radio Doc. & rebuilt? It looks good inside...

Hi Doug;
  This must be the 42 to 47 model; Everything is as you described. Chrome buttons, 7 total, one is off/on & one is tone. The only thing that is ivory are the two heater control arms. Everything else is chrome. The front grill/face looks exactly like one I saw in a photo of a 42 Caddy, series 62 coupe. The only tag on the radio has model No. 474983. I tried to post a photo, but my photos are to big, over 500 pix. CLC forum would not let them load...

   Thank you for your help

The heater controls and the speaker grille and all that stuff are not part of the radio The radio consists of just the raadio in its case, the knobs, and the lottle snap-in covers for the mounting nuts in the speaker grille. All that heater stuff isn't part of the radio.
