Can anyone tell me the year of this radio? The number on the data tag is 301. I have removed the dust cover and the tag inside reads "series 65  auto reciever".Also--W.G. 24,   I.F.175 KC . Thank you in advance  member # 23389

It's definitely a Cadillac radio, though you can't read the name plate in the picture. The number 301 doesn't ring a bell, but from what I can see, the control head looks like a 34-36  as used in the V16 cars.  The model number of the set will be on a sticker inside the radio case. If it's what I have guessed, the model will be something like 56V1.

However, this set appears to have the speaker in the radio case, so I'd be wrong on my guess above. f you can find a model number inside the set, that'll tell the thing positively.

Those Cadillac factory sets were made by Wells-Gardner, in Chicago, a maker of some very fine radios. The model number on the sticker in the set is actually a W-G number.

A little Cadillac Radio history will narrow it down. From 1931-33 the control head was mounted below the dash. Then in 1934 a removable plate was added to the dash . The radio head replaced the plate. The 1934 radios still had a lock, it was in the plate where your Cadillac emblem is. That change was made in 1935. In 1936 only the two knobs and the dial were used. Therefore your radio is a 1935.  The radios of 1934 and 1935 were very similair. The big change for 1935 was the radio band was extended to include 1500-1650 kilo cycles. In these years there were two radios the Standard and Master. The master had separate boxes for the speaker and genemotor (this provided "B" power) In the Standard the speaker was in the one box and a vibrator  was used for "B" power, this is what you have . It is a model 6S , not a 65, it cost $54.50 new. The plate on the head is cut off , it should go down to a point.
Some extra information you don't need . As Doug mentioned Cadillac was the first company to make a radio standard in Jan 1934 on the V16 model. This radio was a master model of this series. For an extra $25 (to cover a body modification) you could have your Master radio mounted for rear seat use. The eschution plate was shortened much like yours ,but no Cadillac word and a line was added  at the bottom.Warren
