Has anyone changed out the stock windshield wiper transmision and arms and post assembly with something from a later model 12 volt car?  My car has  a 12 volt system and the original stock assembly is in pieces. I would consider installing a motor and mechanical assembly from a later car to eliminate the stock wire cable system.

My car is far from being a original restoration so an upgraded system would not take away from its value. I'm sure it has been done. And from what car did they wiper motor assembly come from? Most salvage yards in my area have later model cars and that hasnt helped me find something that fits easily.

Any suggestions?

Several years ago I purchased an electric wiper system from JPL  to replace my vacuum unit in my '53.
I was very happy with the results...but be aware that replacement still uses the original "wire"-style mechanism to move the actual  wipers. The system only replaces the "vacuum" unit itself.

Here is another outfit that offers electric conversion and you don't even have to change the wiper arms.  However, it gets a little price as the motor is 12 volts and you have to purchase a power invertor to make it work.  Might be worth a call though.

http://www.newportwipers.com/index.php Newport Engineering, Washington, MO  800-829-1929; Electric Wiper Motor conversions for all types of cars including ’40 Cadillac;  NOTE:  Wiper motors come in 12 volts only.  Newport offers a power inverter for $150 that they have tested in shop and feel it to be very reliable.  Power inverter cost is $150 and Wiper Motor is $205, plus freight.

Good luck,
