I am  Planning a trip to the states in september we will be arriving in Washington DC. We are thinking about purchasing a vehicle to drive to LA and see some sites along the way we plan on being there for 1 month whilst it is easy to buy a car we are finding it difficult to get information about registration and insurances needed. can any one on this forum give us some tips

G'day Trevor,

Getting Insurance is going to be your WORST nightmare.

Now, it can be done, as I have done it twice, for 4 Months in 2002 and 2 Months in 2008.

Insurance is extremely difficult to get if you don't have a Residential Address, or a Drivers Licence for the State in which you want to depart from.   Plus, Insurance is VERY EXPENSIVE when compared to Australia, whereas Registration is cheap.

I will ring you tonight if you are going to be home.

I will ring you on your landline.

That way, your brain won't get fizzed by the microwaves during the long conversation.
