AL!  Quite a few guys said the last of the great Cadillacs were 1975-1976!  Is that true?  If it is why not start your club which would include 1975-1979 Cadillacs with 500 cu in engines.  EAM

The 1977 to 1979 cadillacs are the last great ones besides 1980. After that GM went downhill untill 1990. Just my opinion. 1975 and 1976 are also in that category. They just have a different body and engine. 1977 to 1979 was the downsize years.

AL!  The 1975 & 1976 Caddy El Dorados and the de Villes were the last of the great classy Cadillacs.  In 1977 on they dropped the Caddys down to an overgrown Chevrolet size and took the manhood away from the powerhouses. Just add these two years to your club and watch the respect and members you will be getting.  THINK ABOUT IT!  EAM

EAM 17806 - FYI, there are only 10 less HP in the 77 425ci 'manhood'.
Also, 'many guys' tell me the 74-76 Devilles are baubus and much less enjoyable to drive than the 'tri 7's which are more modern, reliable, and safe, as well as, more trunk room, headroom, and legroom.  'many guys' think they look much better also.

The 71 and 72 IMO are the last great Deville barges.  73-76 I consider the lost years...

If you prefer those years, start your own club...

Favorite year ever, for me, 1962
70 Olds 442 Convertible Azure Blue special order 1 of 3

99 Olds Aurora (last day of production)
00 Pontiac T/A Firehawk blk/blk 1 of 3; 11.92 1/4 mi
07 GMC Yukon Denali - daily driver
10 Chevy Camaro RS/SS 518 rwhp
15 Buick Verano - company car

In my humble opinion, Tri-7 is a much improved Cadillac over its immediate predecessor.

I say this having owned both but it was not until I got my first '77 before being convinced of this; previously I had been in the same camp as EAM. (Or EAM!)

It's been some time since this thread had begun unfortunately I see the link to the 77-79 Club is dead. However interest & appreciation in these fine cars has grown considerably since and the majority of Tri-7 owners for the most part, love them for the excellent road cars they are.

Someday it would be great to see a 77 - 79 or 80 Chapter of the CLC organized. People who recall them new are just beginning to enter the right age for entering the old car hobby, additionally these cars seem to be exceptionally popular with the 20-something crowd these days as well.

Interesting to read through this old thread. The 1977-79 De Villes and Fleetwood Broughams are very desirable Cadillac models, and have always had a great reputation. There are lots of threads about these models, and they were highly regarded at the time. They were actually roomier than the 1976 models, and I presume that they performed as well and handled better as well. Of course beauty is subjective, but I think these models are very attractive.

Someday I would especially like a 1979 Fleetwood Brougham (not D'Elegance) with leather and lots of options. I wonder if any came without vinyl roofs? I'd want the 425 with carburetor and not fuel injection.

Does anyone know if these models are appreciating now?  :)

Except for the very finest examples with ultra low mileage, rarely do 4 door Cadillacs of this generation sell for much over $10K which seems to have been the case for decades. Optional equipment and color will also have a significant bearing on how much a given car brings in the marketplace. Especially color.

Coupes on the other hand seem to be appreciating a bit better.

Vinyl roof was standard on the Brougham.

Agreed - the regular Brougham interior is more attractive to my eyes than that of the Brougham d'Elegance in 1979.
