shift selector stopped working at exactly the same time power door lock engagement did.  Anyone else experience this?  Solutions greatfully accepted! :)

If you mean the shift indicator in the dash doesn't move even when put in gear, this is usually caused by the prndl sensor/switch on the trans.

The symptom is that exactly!  The automatic power door lock that locked the doors also stopped working at the same exact time.  Obviously related??
