I GOT 2 DAYS TO FIGURE IT OUT. I WAS WONDERING IF A 59 CADILLAC HYROMATIC TRANS WILL FIT ON A 63 CADILLAC  390 ENGINE . I CAN CUT THE FLOOR BOARDS IT THATS THE ONLY REASONS. IF YOU KNOW PLZ HELP

I believe the answer is no.

The 1963 390 was a completely different engine to the earlier 390 engines, and were a one-off design for that year.   These engines are the forerunner to the 429.

From hollander 32 Ed
Hollander #363  Cadillac 62-63, Cadillac 64 w/ hydromatic , not turbo (my note- turbo models use a different crank)
Note #365 and #366  fit to block & crankshaft & have same  hsg. & output shaft, but different case.
Hollander #365 Cadillac 1960
note 1: see note under #363
     note 2:  #364 fits
Hollander #366  Cadillac 1961
   note see note under #363
Hollander #364 Cadillac 1959
  Note : #365 fits.
I think this means 1959 fits 1960 , 1960 fits 1963. And the case is not the same.
When I was working on my 1963 , I seem to remember that the pan and internal filter were new to 1960. Warren

Bruce does have a valid point, about the 390 engine. The back of the block needed an adapter for the turbo -hydromatic in 1964, this was because the two transmissions were made different in that area. ( the turbo needed to fit the new GM standard design.) The 429 was reworked in 1965 to eliminate the adapter. So I believe Hollander is correct. Warren

I remember using a 64 cadillac hydramatic transmission the non turbo version with reverse all the way to the bottom in a 57 cadillac and coupling it to a 59 390 engine. i had to change the oil pan i think i used a 62 pan . but 63 64 has a different pan altogether. + i think the kickdown is electric versus the TV rod on the 59 transmission. I think you could use it but you would definetly need a 61 62 oil pan and rig somthing up for the TV or passing gear. from my experience. you may want to measure the width at the side of the 59 transmission it was a bit bulkyer but that changed in 60. your best bet is to rebuild the 59 transmission. i know somtimes budget prohibits that but then you have less headaches. good luck

i should have wrote this in the beginning. but this guy has a 59 tranny that is beefed up from back in the day and and i got a 63 so i guess i was tying to see if i could use it cause hes sellin for cheap since he cant get rid of it. if its too much of a process ill just get the turbo 400 adapter kit.
