Hi All,

My engine, including rocker covers, is painted blue. So is the air cleaner, as per the attached photo.

Is this correct ???

I believe the air cleaner should be black.

Is that a Trico electric vacuum pump I see on the fire wall?  I have not seen one of those outside my garage for a long time.

Where is the brake booster? It's possible to see the old mark of it on the firewall; I'm wondering what kind of system you have...By the way, the air filter seems to be metallic blue; it should be black.

Glen, Yes, it is a trico vacuum pump. Isn't it supposed to be there?

Roger, When I purchased the vehicle the brake booster was one of the parts (in pieces) that were in the big box, that came with the car. In fact there was a lot of parts in the box including the Master Cylinder ( also in pieces).
The booster is a Bendix Hydrovac.

If you have anymore questions please fire away.

Eastwood Under Hood Black is about the closest to what the original was.  The oil filter canister, oil cap and steering pump reservoir were also that semi-gloss black.

Jumping on Geoff's post below--Bill Hirsch Cadillac Engine Blue.

Also, there is an auxiliary vacuum pump in the oil pump for additional vacuum to the wipers.  That Trico piece doesn't belong there, but I bet it's rare and worth holding on to.

Not only should the air cleaner be black, but the color of that air cleaner is also not the correct color blue for the engine.

IIRC the Trico vacuum pump is an after market device to “fix” poor wiper performance on these and many cars of the era.  I guess people did not want to replace the fuel pump that had the vacuum pump attached.  Or maybe they were getting scarce.

It could be argued it is period correct so it does belong there.

These cars didn't have the dual-action fuel pump.  There was a rotary vacuum pump that ran off the oil pump.  The faster the pump ran, the more auxiliary vacuum--or so they thought.

WHY did Cadillac hold on to those vacuum wipers so long?
