I have a set of headlights that I am having difficulty identifying the year(s) of application.  1928 was the first year of the 'torpedo or bullet type shell with a medallion and 'ridge back' addition that tapered to the adjusting screw.  When did the ridge back disappear from the main body even though the medallion remained on the headlight ring?

Good Eye, Jim. I think you're right. They look like two left sides to me. The hole in the side is for the rod that passes between the two lights with theV8, V12, or V16 badge in the middle.

The holes in the sides of the lights may also be for the jewels that many of these lights had on the out board side. They are not 1931 because starting with the 1930 v16 and all 31's the Crest was replaced with a screw and the rear portion of the body was smaller than the front. That leaves 1928,1929 and 1930.
From a Chilton Multi guide 1931. Lens diameters are as follows. 1928-29   10 1/4 inches, 1930   12 1/8 inches. It  bothers me that they list  the 1930 V16 as 11 1/4 inches since I know  in 1931 the 16 used a bigger light than the V8 & V12, which my car takes. Warren

Thanks for your input guys.  These headlights had the red and green Jewels. I presumed that they were 28 and 29.  30 may seem a possibility.

Are you sure these lights are Cadillac?  The Master Parts Book (1936) says 876623 green (right) and 876624 red (left) were only used on LaSalle models. They were used from 1927-32. The Cadillacs used 879639 no color stated, in 1928 &1929.But , since only one number is given they must have been the same side to side. The lens size for LaSalle was 9 5/8 inch ,1927-29 and 10 1/4 inch,1930-31.  Warren
