What colour is the spare tire wheel cavity suppose to be ? It is for a 1955 fleetwood 60 special. I am in the middle of a frame of restoration and would like to paint it as a factory original. Thanks, G.Lucas. ???

I'm not sure about the 55's, but the 53's were vynal lined. No paint underneath to speak of, just that reddish looking stuff they sprayed on at the factory. Here's a photo of my trunk done over with a kit from Jenkins. I can't imagine that they would go from a lined cavity to a painted one in two years, especially on the 60 Special, but you never know.

my 56 60s has nos carpetting in the trunk and the tire liner is done in the same carpet as the trunk floor is.

Edit:  When I said carpeting that may have not been the correct term for the trunk liner....it is, as you said forrest, a heavy fabric mat.  The fabric came from S&S, as it's in my receipt book provided to me from the previous owner.  It was replaced due to butter stains....  The second owner told me she had to replace the trunk liner when they freshened her up..b/c back in the 70's she smuggled friends into the drive-in, she got the car for her 16th birthday, so that makes sense.  Anyways...here are two pictures of the trunk as it is today with one close-up of the fabric itself.  The replaced mat, and the original cardboard side pieces.  Also, that is the original US Royal spare....There's a chalked date from 1956 on the reverse side....it no longer holds air(for very long).

If your '56 has carpet in the trunk, that's a previous owner's addition. The original material is a heavy fabric mat.
