I need a part number for a 1973 "thermostatic choke coil and rod", or the parts themselves. Apparently they don't run very well without one...

The coil has been available through the aftermarket for many years. I don't think the rod has. And GM will not carry either of these parts anymore. Best to locate the rod from the wreckers, and get the coil through the aftermarket. Check with your local NAPA store.

Standard/Blue Streak has carried it in the past, and should still cataloque it.

Local sources have proven themselves incapable of tracking this down. Anyone have a part number?

Larry,
The part number for the 1973 choke coil is 17055253.  You now have the number, but I do not believe it will do any good.  Someone suggested a "salvage" yard, and that will probably bee your best bet.  You can, with a little enginuity,
adapt almost any of the 1970- 73 chokes to work.  The differences were typically in spring rates, but any working choke can be adjusted to provide the cold start choke and fast idle you need.

The GM part number may be a good start, at least for cross referance.
