Does anyone have a photo of a cadillac on the assembly line from '55 or '56. In particular how the assembled body prior to it being lowered on to the frame. I am looking to see how they cradled the body from the overhead conveyor. Please attach it to your response. Thanks.

I have been in quite a few assembly plants from 1940 through the end of them. I was in the Clark Street plant quite a few times. In general, depending on the particular design of the body, it was carried by arms, that you can sort of make out in the picture, reaching down and around  it, and then under the body at some points where it was safe to handle it.

Those points couldn't have been the body mount pads, because the frame was already made ready for the body to be seated on the frame with the body drop carrier. The pick-up points would have had to be somewhere else.

There is a complete, and working, so I understand, body drop in the Detroit Historical museum. I have some pictures of the 1957  Chrysler body drop, that were taken by a friend, when a group of us were guests in the Jefferson Assembly plant. If I could figure out how to get them on here, I'd be glad to show one here. They're on my other computer.
