1970 CADDY 472 RUNNING RUFF AT IDLE BUT SMOOTHS OUT WHEN YOU GIVE IT A LITTLE BIT OF GAS. THINK IT NEEDS TUNE UP OR CARBERATOR TUNED??? WHAT DO YOU THINK???

Could be lots of things.   Idle is tricky because there is not much of everything so it all has to be correct, higher speeds there is more of everything so its easier to cover up a problem.  Look for vacuum leaks.  Fuel quality.  Make sure tune up items are in top condition.   While you have the dwell meter connected slowly rev it a few times and watch the reading it should stay fairly steady.  If it wanders all over the place the bushings cold be worn in the distributor.  Make sure the weights in the distributor are able to move freely.   Make sure the vacuum advance is working properly.  If the vacuum advance hose runs through any switches make sure they are working properly also.    Under optimum conditions a carb is only good for maybe 10 years before it could do with at least a good cleaning.  Now days with ethanol in most of the gas in the USA they seem to have issues much sooner. Idle circuits are usually the first to suffer again because the passages are the smallest and easiest to plug up
