I have a 25 year old variable pressure ( prox. 3 lb. to 6 lb.)  6V electric fuel pump made in Cass City, Michigan that I originally bought through J.C. Whitney that is a "DuPree" brand that's getting a little sick. It's no longer offered in Whitney's catalog, but was just great when it was working. I have it hooked up back at the gas tank on my '38 LaSalle with an under dash toggle to push gas up for cold starts... then shut it off and let the AC vacuum pump take over. It still runs like a machine gun...just isn't pushing gas ! I haven't done an exploratory yet, but thought I'd get some advise from you experts before I attempted surgery. All suggestions appreciated !( If all else fails... who's now making a nice compact 6V - 6 lb. pressure replacement ? )  Bruce

Hi Bruce: Congrats for getting 25 years out of that pump. I think your pump is the same as what is called Walbro or a pump made by A/C. As I understand nobody is making parts for these pumps. The big problem is the rubber diaphragm used in the pumps was being destroyed by the modern fuels. NAPA or Carquest carry several 6 volt pumps like a Carter P4259 vain type or a pump made by Airtex.  Both I think have pressures of 4-6 pounds.

Bruce,

I bought my 6-volt electric fuel pump (used only for cold starts) from Coopers, but don't remember which brand name.

Thanks Bill & Fred... I'll start at my friendly local NAPA down the road a piece and then ring Bob & Vince ! ( I see in the current Self-Starter that I was once a GM employee ? I never knew that, however I did sell some GM stock I owned while it still had significant value. I think I'll sent that S-S story to GM and find out about my retirement benefits ... maybe they'll spring for a new fuel pump ? ).  bb
