Hello, I have a broken spring on my front door latch, I have the assembly out of the car and a replacement spring on the way. I don't see how you replace the spring itself. I assume you must remove one of the rivets and or tabs to get access to the spring any help would be great thanks Marty

In all probability you will need to remove a rivet or whatever else is required to allow you to access the inside of the mechanism.  On a '47 latch the springs are accessible but the mechanism probably changed in '42.  If you have access to the Fisher body manual for your year, there should be some information on spring replacement.  I found a '41 shop manual that you can read online but it refers you to the Fisher body manual for any body related issues and it, unfortunately, is not posted on the website.
