Hi,
I Just took my Eldo from carb specialist. Cold engine starts easily. Choke works fine. But  still very little power on high rpm.  Engine does not reach enough rpm for gear box to upshift (or governor adjustment is  wrong and it upshifts too late in kick down mode). Anyway I payed carb guy and went to work. On highway  car does not do more than 75-80 mph. Is it normal? For some reason I think  100mph  speedo should be nearly done? What furher testing should I  do? All ideas are welcome, exepct "sell this car".

Thanks

My fairly original 75 with about 72K on it now will do 90mph easily.  Never tried to push it any higher but it felt like it would do more.  At 60 I can step on it and still feel the acceleration.

Have you had a look at the cat converter ( assuming it still has one )?  A restricted exhaust will really kill the performance.

Catalytic converters were mandated on all 1975 passenger cars (except Honda, whose CVCC engine was so efficient it didn't need one)

Light trucks didn't have to have them until 1980.

A worn out/stopped up catalytic converter can give the symptoms you describe.

Without a doubt, the cat would be the first thing to check.  From personal experience on my 76 I can verify that a plugged Cat will strangle the motor.

Seconded on the cat, very common issue when I worked for GM in those days, Also check the fuel filter in the carb inlet.

The Tassie Devil(le)

When you pull the Sintered Bronze Filter from the Carby, see if you can breathe through it, that is blow, not suck.

With a new one, you will be able to "Huff" through it and you will soon feel the difference if yours is blocked.

Make sure you put one back as they do work, and stop the minute particles from entering the carby.

Misfit

I removed the "Cat" on my '76. I didn't want to burn the carpet. Plus no inspection in Florida anymore.

Straight S/S exhaust and the factory style muffler. Even at 100 mph, put your foot all the way down and she pulls hard. I'm sure 120 mph is possible, but that would be a damned expensive ticket. At least $500+.

And of course loss of my job !!!   :o
