It would be interesting to see the products that this outfit offers.

There are several harness specialists that offer replacement wiring for our cars.  I recently bought a new harness for my Cadillac 38-90 from Rhode Island Harnesses. Not only was I pleased, but I was overwhelmed at the quality of the harness. It could easily have come from Packard Electric Division, as suppled to Cadillac.

At one point in my career, I had the job of designing wiring harnesses for the Redstone Missile. From that, I learned a lot about fabrication of wiring sets, and developed a keen appreciation for workmanshuip, quality, and reliability. Before these companies were in business, I laid out harnesses for almost all of my vintage cars.

Doug- I've used YnZ's harnesses since the early 70s- on two pre-war and one'49 Cads; and just this year purchased a main harness for another 40 Cad.
I knew both owners (Sid Young passed on) . I met Gene Zudanowski when we both taught at Cal State, San Bernardino around 1974 or so. I consider their work to be as good as it gets, and I believe  their customers would agree. I think they started in 1969, so they have decades of experience in making harnesses. You can check them out through Hemmings, with whom they have advertised all those years. Oh yes, all connections etc seem identical to the originals, so far as I can see. Mike

So you recommend this manufacturer?

My experiences have been uniformly excellent- on that basis, I recommend them whole-heartedly.  I would hope that any members who have not had equally good experiences would speak up. I probably should add that I was told  because of the increase in material costs-and the difficulty of finding sources for high quality materials, their prices have increased considerably over the last few  years.  They ain't cheap, unfortunately. Paid $300 for my 49 sedan main harness in 1986- $600 in 2004 for my 49 Fastback from YNZ. Now there $1,080...Whew. Gene is a great guy to chat to, just like the owner of Rhode Island Wiring. Gene stated the price of copper was the driving force behind the increases.

Copper and other non ferris metals were at their peak around this time last year. Since the economic crash, copper has dropped in demand and hence in price. Perhaps the harness makers will be willing to make a deal? I can't imagine them doing blow-out business right now and half a loaf is better than none.
