In never having a collector car--and now have my first, which I've coveted for 12 years --AND being a neophyte mechanic...knowing that I have a lot to learn--I bought a book by Josh Malks, entitled "How To Keep Your Collector Car Alive"...Before I quote the book, I have to tell you that my parents are now gone, my dad used to say..."don't piss your inheritance away on an old car"...Mom & Dad left us nicely set with things...and my old man was smart to make it into retirement accounts for us , when it's be our time to retire...but there was the liquidity of selling the house, which I  now have my coveted dream...I have to confess I had a sense of guilt in proceeeding with buying her....but I was struck by a part of the introduction in the book, which made me say, "I did the right thing"...here is the excerpt from the book.........And I will add the first day I brought her home, I was the first paragraph...I was so nervous, shaking to me knees, thinking "Is she gonna make it home? should I take I-77? or the back roads--just in case? Without more rambling..here is the excerpt...

"Sometimes on my way home, I stop to visit a car loving friend, or pause to fill up the gas tank. Admiringly passersby ask "Aren't you afraid to drive it?"  Nope, as a matter of fact, I'd be afraid not to.
Even more important  than the effect on the car is the effect on the driver. If your newly restored collectible wears out, it can be restored again. But you, the driver can't.  Every year you miss the fun in driving your collectible prize is a year less in which you'll be able to to do it.  Driving your collector car is good for the spirit ,too Drivers and passengers in other cars smile, wave and applaud.  Children stare at your rolling history lesson and actually engage their parents in conversation"

Wow  I!! I say this because I was witness to all of the above the first time I took my  Cadillac on the highway...Cheesy to say, yes, but at the same time, I experienced exactly what the author had said...I am so glad I am here

Why De open a new thread I wonder?

Probably because the other thread was more about the damage from the garage door?
