GM announced it would start paying back $6.7 billion in US government loans by the end of 2009. Is GM really becoming solvent, or is this just media hype on the part of GM? Charles D. Barnette

Otto Skorzeny

How can they be paying anything back when they just announced that they had a $1,600,000,000 loss? Solvent? not on your life.

Of course since it's now Government Motors, perhaps they've adopted the same NewSpeak that Washington uses to obfuscate the facts and bamboozle the public.

A loss isn't really a loss anymore. It's a non-optimal profit.

Excellent JT.

Of course the boneheads we have running the show today make New Dealers look like penny pinching, strict constructionists.

I think this is about the only debt they have left after bankruptcy.  I think it's all polical nonsense.

Ahhh...  The good old days when the Chicago Tribune ('the Trib' in these parts) used to be referred to as the
conservative mouthpiece in town.

John -

Holy smokes are YOU ahead of the curve!  Glen Beck just used this political cartoon on his show yesterday (though he said it was from 1933)

Well Done, John
