1950's Convertible Top
« on: December 03, 2009, 01:00:55 AM »
I have a 1953 Cadillac convertible with a top raising problem. The top goes down with no problem at all, but when trying to raise the top from it's stowed position it must be lifted by someone to about 1/4 to 1/3 of its travel before it will continue to raise on it's own.  I have noticed that the fluid in the system is basically clear but with a white tint.  I'm not sure what type of fluid it might be, however since the windows work fine, and the top will raise from the header bar and go down just fine I'm not sure the fluid, whatever it is, is a problem. I would lean toward thinking the top cylinder is the culprit, but certainly would appreciate any ideas.

Thank you

Larry
