G'day all,

I have to replace the Cable for the Trunk Lock Pull-down on my '72 Eldorado, and am trying to find out which other years use the same Cable.

This way, I will have a number of options available in my search for perfection.

Thanks,

Bruce. >:D

Bruce,
While the pull cable was used for many years, according to the MPB the one you need has to come from a 72 or 73 Eldo ONLY. It is approx. 66" long. I don't have one.

G'day Bob,

Thanks for that.   Now the search is extremely limited.

I remember reading on one of the forums someone replacing the factory cable with a bicycle hand brake type cable. The originals, back in the 60's anyway, used a plastic housing which would either melt, crack or dent and the cable would get stuck. I've run across very few which work perfectly. This may be an option while you're looking for the correct piece. HTH, Jeff

Bruce,
In the rusty memory banks of my mind I remember (I think) having a replacement cable made for my 72 Eldo way back in the mid 70's because of what the replacement cost.  I screwed up one end of the cable and had the replacement cable in my sheath made at , I believe, a boat shop.

Your other option is salvage yards.

Yes Bruce, are there any other 72 Eldo's in Tasmania that you could possibly forage from at night when no one else is around?   :D

If not, there's always the Bathurst show field @ 3am.   You do know how to pop out a trunk lock, right?   ;)

If only it was as easy as going to a Wrecking Yard here in Tassy.

Actually, I have never seen any Cadillac for that matter being stripped in any of our yards here.

But, if the worst comes to the worst, I will have a new centre cable made up at one of our own Cable-making facilities, but getting the end that attaches to the hydraulic cylinder is going to be difficult.   I say difficult, but not impossible.

This is a poor design the way they lay on the trunk floor and rust.  I think the 1971 would be the same also?  But so many parts are different for the 71 I could be wrong.  I have sold these before but I do not have one now.  I sold a shock for one on eBay today; most of these are leaking and no longer work.

Even if you did find a cable in the wrecking yard I doubt that it would be any good.

I would thnk it to be a good thing if my car just had the standard latch.
