Is my Superior hearse based on a 40-50 or a 40-52?

Hey folks. I have a La Salle based Superior hearse. I believe it is a 1940 model, although I'm not 100% sure if it is based on the series 50 or series 52. I'm curious because I'd might buy some stuff from the weatherstripping group buy, so I want to get the right stuff!

This pictures shows parts of the hood still in the back:

You can see that is has the 3 separate side grills; is that definitive?

I know, I should have it all unpacked and examined and inventoried... but, well, school, etc.

Based upon the photo of the hood and the belt molding on the hood, I woud say you hearse is based on a 1940 Series 50 LaSalle.

The tail lights are definitely Series 50. I don't believe that I have ever seen a Series 52 commercial car. Has anybody?

The listing in the CLC directory engine numbers from 2320001 to 2330382 were used on the 1940 series 50.  Series 52 has 4320001 to 4333751 engine numbers.  The title you posted shows the car you have is a series 50.

Oh, ha, I totally forgot that I had the PDF of the Bill Of Sale up there.
I guess that's good, definitive proof!

While the experts are at the table... how do I actually get a title? I have no idea if the vehicle was titled in Washington, where it was bought from. It's currently in my possession in California, and that's the only piece of paper I have.
I worry that I don't technically own it... or might never be able to own it, etc.

What are the laws in California? In Georgia, a bill of sale is all that's required to register and issue a title for a car that old.

Call your DMV or go online and read the requirements. It might be as simple as a bill of sale or a sworn affidavit.

There's a form for titling a car with a lost title. Read all about it at the link above.

From what I just glanced over, you'll need a bill of sale , notarized, etc.

Otto,

Not to change the subject, but I'm really digging the color of your car....like I'm a purist, but I think my sixty special would look sweet done all in the lower color of your car with a grey cloth interior and chrome sabres.  Hmmm....that's an idea, but I'm probably too chicken to change it.  LOL

In case you do, the lower color is Camelot Grey Metallic. The upper color is Alpine White.

I like it too. It looks somewhat contemporary and looks classy. I really dig the Sonic Blue interior paint for my 50s fix.
