Hello,
I'm picking up a 1948 346 Flathead next week and I've been struggling to find information on rebuilding those motors.  I found an original shop manual for the car which helps but I wanted to see if there are any good shop manuals that exist?

Also, are the speciality tools still available for the valvetrain removal/installation?

thanks,
Nathan

There are several different publications now on eBay which might help you.

Here they are:

They are repos.

OK thanks-  do you have any suggestions as to where I can find some of the specialty tools for the valve removal/installation?

Again, eBay will be your best bet. The service manual will list the part number for the tool, so Google away. The internet is an invaluable tool for finding anything obsolete.

Hello,
I got all the original Kent-Moore factory tools for my 54 from Bill Sawrey of Tennessee. Email toolzguy@aol.com, tel. 865 354 4695. If he doesn't have them he puts you on his database and when he gets them he emails you.
Good luck,
Phil

Since Cadillac flatheads were used in WWII Military Tanks, a manual was written for servicing & rebuiling those engines.

Disregarding the irrelevant info, there's plenty of good descriptions & diagrams:

Hello,

Drop me an e-mail. I have a lot of original tools for these old flat heads. Not for sale, but I can suggest alternatives.

You don't need a lot of special tools to rebuild a flathead.  Valves can be removed with a conventional spring compressor, but putting them back is an excercise in patience.  You need to install the keepers by feel, count on dropping about half of them into the engine.  Do this with the pan off  and you'll have a chance of finding them.
