How hard is it to do the rear main seal in a 61 caddy deville.  What is the correct way to go about doing this?
thanks

Steven is right, you need the shop manual!  There are several up for auction or sale on eBay Motors right now, found by putting "1961 Cadillac Shop Manual" in the eBay Motors SEARCH box.  Below is a link to one of them for $22 --- BUY IT NOW, which I would grab quickly.

It depends up on your skill as a mechanic, pull the egine out, turn it upsidedown, remove the oilpan, fluidamper, trans cover, camchain, oilpump, conrod caps and main caps, lift the crank and replace the seal, pu it back in revesed order. Take care not to scratch the surface on the crankaxle.
Check the weare of the bearings and replace, also sugest you replace the spring in the oilpump.
