I have a 1961 deville with the 390.  I recently installed a sunpro oil pressure gauge to see what the oil pressure was at.  It is at 25psi at idle according to the gauge.  The gauge is a temporary thing just to see what the pressure is at.  25psi seems a bit low to me but then again it is an old worn out motor that has never been rebuilt and I am using the cheapest mechanical gauge I could find.  I just need this engine to last a couple of years until I can afford to have it rebuilt.  Any opinions would be appreciated.
Thanks

25 psi at idle doesn't seem bad to me although my experience presently is with other motors and tractors etc.
just my 2 cents >:D

Without looking it up in the shop manual, I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be around 23psi at idle at operating temperature.  Seems to ring a bell.

The main thing about Oil Pressure is that the pressure is correct at 1,000 RPM.

The 1959 Manual and 1960 Supplement says:

Normal pressure at 30 MPH:   Minimum 30 to 35 PSI.  and at Idle, (Average) 15 PSI.

The Relief Valve opens at 35 PSI, sao you shouldn't see pressures much higher than the 35 to 40 PSI at cold.

I have even seen Idle pressures down to 5 PSI, but by then, the Oil Pressure Light starts to flicker.

My '62 shop manual says 15psi at idle and 30 to 35psi at 30mph same as Bruce's for '59 and '60.

What is the pressure range on your gauge? Typically pressure gauges are the most accurate at mid range. Most of today's gauges are 0 to 80psi.
