Can anyone give me the correct dimensions for the wooden wedge that you use to chock the tire when jacking the car?  I've been watching ebay for years and I've never been able to get my hands on one.  A 150 year-old oak fell in my backyard recently and I have lots of wood to play with, so I thought I'd make one.  ;D

I intentionally left out the year because I'm sure this was used for MANY years, but specifically I'm looking for a 1968.

Mike,

I have several of these.  I will take some measurements for you.

Thanks,

Now that we are on these wooden tire chock wedge blocks; was this a part of the standard equipment of every model, and for what years?
My '59 doesn't have one, and most (if not all) '59's I have seen did not have one either.
Despite that, sometimes a block was offered on Ebay claiming it should be correct for '59.

HI
My wife's 59 Coupe has the wooden chock.

Feiko,

You SHOULD have a wood wedge.

Don't know the range, but were supplied as factory for many years.
Enjoy life - it has an expiration date.

The earliest Cadillac I have owned was a 58, and there was one in the trunk.  My 76's have them, I suspect they were in the trunks up to about 1978 or so.

I am sure someone has a definitive answer, but that's what I have observed.

Shouldn't they be pretty easy to make? They're probably oak or hickory.

To get back to the original request, the dimensions are:
Width   3 1/2"
Height  3 1/4"
Sole      5 1/4"
Ramp    6"
It appears to have started as a 4X4 piece of pine which finishes 3 1/2 inches square. mine is painted black.
I hope this helps.

I don't need to find my tape measure now.

I would guess it's made of oak, and they are painted black.

Great answers, guys.  Thanks for the pictures and measurements!

LOL paint code... I think I'll take a chance the judges won't know that one. :D

John, thanks for the offer.  I'm gonna pass but now it's out here for posterity.

I just made 2 chokes using your dimensions in less than 10 minutes.  It is just as easy to make two as it is one when using a 10" radial arm saw.  All I have is redwood 4X4s but once painted I don't know what difference that will make.  Would flat black enamel be close enough to original appearance?  Thanks for posting the dimensions.  Russ Hobden #1235.

My 49 is stained. Just kidding about the paint code.
