It is the metal shield in front of the choke housing.
I have seen different colors; zinc, black and gold. Which one will be the correct for my 55 Eldo?

The "zinc" color you refer to is correct -- it should be silver cadmium plated.

Cool,

I am rebuilding a set of 56 dual quads, and thought it was the silver color.

Thanks

John W

Oh someone used these for planters so this rebuild has taxed all my resources, parts, patience, and addication to merlot.

John, I would refer the addition to merlot to “stress relief over the counter medication..!”   :D

I’ll take a glass..!  ;D

Thanks - since no one is voting for the Black color I'll go back to the cadmium no paint surface..
Appreciate the service on this forum. Tom

CORRECTION

Sorry guys -- when Lou gets confused I start to worry.  The correct color is
GLOSS BLACK.  I actually went out to the garage, pulled off the cover and looked!

I did at one time have a cad plated repro I bought from FEN which I found out
later was not correct.  That's the source of my error.

Guess once your over 60 those little details start to slip away........................

Sorry for the confusion!!!!

Mike,

Ok, I painted it black. Now if I could find a correct choke cover, for the Carter, and a new secondeary butterfly, the one above the secondaires life would be good.

OK, - then I'll just keep it black then :) I had mine cadmium plated, but painted it Black a couple of years ago and now started to wonder why, after seeing some pictures on Ebay recently.
I cant help looking for uncorrect details when I see a restored car, hmmm - should not be like that? But I don't know the Cadillac so well, since my Eldo has been thru at least 2 amateur (partly) restoring periods. A lot of people don't pay attention to the interesting details that makes it look original.
Again, thanks,

All -

If anyone has a spare one of these, I could use it (assuming of course, it's the same for 1957)

Thanks,
