Gentlemen:

Just to throw my two cents into this thread, the proper engine paint is GM #47119080 DuPont's Crane Grey Motor Enamel.
This is from the 1940 Cadillac-LaSalle Manufacturing Information book put out by the Engineering Department.

Certainly, your local DuPont Paint supplier should be able to mix this up with no problem!!!!
