What is the best way to seal these vintage bad boys? I'm told not to even think about running tubes.

Tom,

On my 53 Cad, using stock wire wheels, I run tubes. Not sure there is another way with these.

I being told that it's dangerous to run tubes with a radial tire. Are you running radial or bias ply?

I am running Radials, with Radial Tubes.

Ok Hoffman, your older than dirt, so you probably remember solid tires. ha, ha.

The Tassie Devil(le)

G'day Tom,

The only problem with running Tubes with Tubeless Tyres (Radials or any other Tubeless Tyres) is that the Tubeless Tyre has a virtual Tube moulded into the inside wall of the tyre during construction.   In the past, when tubeless tyres became available, there was a slight chance that the rubber of the tube would chafe when placed against the tubeless tyre's internal wall.   And the first time anyone had another puncture, the Garage Mechanic usually said it was the fault of incompatible materials that caused it.   Granted, it could have been true, but I have never come across it in my lifetime.

With your problem of leaking Spokes, I have used a rubber band, made up of a tube from a much smaller wheel, cutting a 3" wide strip from the centre, or inside diameter of the tube, and stretched it around the centre of the rim to act as a sealing ring, and held it in place with contact cement around the edges.   Never had a problem, as the spoke nuts can still "Move" underneath the band, whilst not letting air out.
