Outstanding 1976 Coupe deVille "Promotional" Model!
« on: March 27, 2010, 10:31:19 AM »
I noticed this 1:25th scale rarity on e-bay--a 1976 Coupe deVille "promotional" model (detailed by an expert), and thought some of you might like seeing it:

http://cgi.ebay.com/1976-Cadillac-Coupe-de-Ville-Pro-Built_W0QQitemZ150426989631QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item230625b43f

Finished in Claret with White, it is meant for someone with the "real" car! Great for us promo collectors! (The only "authorized" dealer promo for '76 Cadillacs was an Eldorado Coupe.) If only it was less expensive . . .  :'(

That is nice. The photos on the marble tile look like a real car.

$404.00 for a plastic model with 4 days to go on the auction?

And I can't get some serious money for a 76 Eldorado with 14K miles on it?

Go figure...

 Beauty!

BTW, this is not a promotional model. Promos were issued by the dealer during the year the actual car was being sold. The companies would commission one of the model kit companies, such as AMT, MPC, SMP or JoHan to produce these cars for this purpose. Then, the model companies may have made a friction drive toy version, and then a full kit to utilise the tooling as much as possible.

Promos have pretty much disappeared from the landscape, some of the last ones done by JoHan in the late 70's. There was a brief revival in the 90's for some Chrysler stuff, but then it has pretty much ceased.

I went to Modelhaus' website. They list the Kit for $90.00. I'll definitely have to add that one to my want list. But I have a couple of resin '94 Fleetwoods to build first.

He had some non Cadillac ones sell for more than that, the current Rambler is up to $405.01 with 5 days to go.

You got to admit they are very beautifully detailed, no doubt many tedious hours went into detailing them.

My first 3 real Cadillacs cost me under $400 for all in 1984 and 1985.

When you consider the time that went into building this model, the price is really not bad. I have some models that have between 100 and 200 hours into their construction. Consider that, and it puts it into perspective.

The predominance and relative cheap availability if die cast cars now makes these hand crafted models look far too expensive.
