 15W40 oil, eh?

I have to wonder if it's just good old Rotella T.

When I was in Wal Mart a couple of weeks back, I found a jug of 15W40 oil that was labeled "Farm Oil". I checked out the the SAE rating and it was the old SL/CJ rating, and it cost considerably less than the HD oil with the newer rating.

Mike,

Yes, I have. I bought a case to try last fall. No complaints so far, but a little expensive. I used to have a lifter collapse if the car sat for a week or so and would tick for about 10 min after start up. After changing to the Classic Oil, the lifter has been silent, even if it sits for a month. Was it the oil?? I don't know, but it doesn't tick anymore. I used to use a zinc additive but I don't need it with this oil.

I noticed on my last trip to the store that 10w 40 is getting pretty rare so I was looking around the shelves to see what else there was to choose from.  I found a 5w-40 synthetic blend.  It is a diesel oil but it carries the SL rating.  I have never minded using the diesel oils but never really liked the 15W part on those cold mornings and nights.  I picked up a jug and so far its in one old engine and I plan to put it in the rest when they are due.
