My water pump has developped a leak at the spot where the generator connection meets (back side of the pump).
I will remove it and re-pack it.

Has anyone a good source for packing material that would fit this type of Pump ? (1932 V-8 355B)

Anything I should watch for during the pump removal/installation and re-packing process ?

Thanks a lot

Occasionally I will see some of those special water pump gaskets for sale, but I use graphite seal rope available at most any good auto store. There are also packings available in the plumbing industry.

I assume you know about the packing nut to tighten the gasket?

Two other things to consider; check the bushings and shaft for wear and the packing nut on a '30 V8 is left hand thread, probably the same on a '32

Thanks a lot for the replies. I have never worked on such pump before.

They sell 3/16 , 1/4 and 1/8 square braided flexible graphite compression packing on e-bay.
Which size would be the best for this case ?

I would say 1/8, but I am not sure. You need the difference between the outside diameter of the shaft vs the inside of the nut. If I remember correctly that is about 1/8.

I just got a 1930 water pump done. The two bushings and shaft had to be replaced. I had the parts made by Pete Sanders (http://fm22.888.net/fmi/iwp/cgi?-db=PartsDatabase04-12-07&-loadframes). We used 3/16" continuious packing.
