THANKS FOR ADVICE IN ADVANCE seems all parts ,local at least stop at 1940 or nwer, doe any one know what is compatible with my 38 lasalle wheel cyl/masercyl #ca i maybe rebore to just oversize ,useing new size kit?

I just bought a rebuild kit from Napa for my 1937 Cadillac 60. I have not put it in yet, but I think the counterman said his first book only went back to 1940, but when he checked an older out of service book he found they were the same. Parts books have to start somewhere I suppose, doesn't mean there isn't some overlapping. Maybe I'll get a surprize when I try to use it.  Napa , Newport, NH  603 863 9700    He got it overnight for me.    Jim

Jack,
Like Jim, I relied on my local NAPA for brake parts for my 37 LaSalle.  Sloppy record keeping on my part; can't find the receipt for the MC rebuild kit, but the plastic bag it came in bore the number: 2 and then under that 0715.  I think they had that in stock!

Brand new wheel cylinders for the rear axle were  P/N 4803 and 4804.  Added bonus, these are made in USA.  Castings bear the numbers, 7565 and either #2 or #6 following a manufacture's logo (a "C"  or "G" w/ a "v" stamped inside) which I don't recognize.  Adjusters were also purchased, P/N 80562.

Jack,

When I did my 37 LaSalle I thought I remembered that later models did not fit.

When I looked it up in my Wagner Catalog it showed:

The Master Cylinder kit as #FC3629. It will fit the earlier cars 1937-1939, and 1940 60 Special.

Now later kits may have some of the same diamensions, but not the correct metal parts. So you may want to check this out a little more in detail. I believe I found the correct kit from a vendor in Hemmings.

Good Luck

John,
I believe the "does not fit later production" situation comes from 1937 LaSalle having "Early " and "Late" production.  I neglected to mention to Jack that mine were evidently Late production and hence the same as the 38 models.  The quick check for wheel cylinders is that Late are 1 3/32" for fronts, and 1" for rears.
This matches the bore dimensions for 1938 for 50, 60, 60S and 65 series cars.  The master cylinder bore for those same series cars is 1", there being no mid-year production changes.

Jack,
You probably know all this and more if you took your old parts w/ you on your foray to NAPA.  But let us know in case I've given out any erroneous information.

Nope,

It was specific, as I stated for 1937 thru 1939, and the 40 I listed.

Again, The bore may be the same, but the other parts, metal, are different.

Good Luck

Is the 38 MC and 39 MC the same part number in the GMPB? If not, I'm sure it could be made to work.

For the records, my late '37 has the 1 3/32 front cylinders, and the rebuild kits for front and rear are NAPA # 35 & 21.
Realize this is old thread, just adding info so its all in one spot. Also thanks for the forklift master cycl info, I ordered one of those today too.  ;)  My cylinders pretty gunky, leaky. I honed a lot but never got all the bad spot out, but it did feel pretty dang smooth with fingernail and it was outside where the seal edge is so hope that is enough.
