Can someone give me primer on, or direct me to a source for directions, on how to disconnect the autronic eye on my '55 so the headlights work with only the on/off switch and the dimmer switch?

I see to recall reading somewhere that it is not that difficult a task?

Thanks -

Dave,

For non Autronic-eye setup the footswitch switches the positive 12V supply for the headlights, with the Autronic-eye it switches ground to operate the power relay.

If you need to disable the Autronic-eye and keep everything in place, just remove the 12V positive supply to the Autronic-eye. This should allow you to revert back to the conventional high/low bean with the footswitch via the power relay.

However if you want to completely removed the Autronic-eye setup , you will need to make some minor wiring modification to turn it to a non Autronic-eye setup.

Good luck..!

Jose/All,

Let me try and revive this topic; which it seems far, far longer than 8 Jun 2010 when it was last discussed?

At any rate, I want to disable the Autronic-eye on my '55 CDV.  The directive is to "just remove the 12V positive supply to the Autronic-eye."

MY QUESTION IS:  Does anyone know which wire that would be?  Is it on the power relay?  My power relay looks like:
                   |----------   Purple
          ____{o}____
         |                 |
<G|--|                 |
   Y     |                 |
   E     |                 | {o} Blue (Pair)
   L     |                 |
   L     |                 |
  O     |__________|
  W        {o}   {o}
              |      |_   Brown
              |
              |__   Green

What color wire should I be removing?  I suspect the purple one, but am not sure?

Appreciate any help I can get on this.  Thanks!

Dave,

That would be the blue which is the 12V power coming from the headlight switch that goes to the power relay and to the Autronic amplifier. If your 1955 is the same as the 1956 there should be two blade connectors that attaches to the same terminal at the power relay. Removing the one that extends over to the Autronic amplifier would disable the unit but would keep the high/low beams controlled by the power relay.

Good luck..!

Jose,

Well, goes to show what I know?  I would of "thunk" it was was the purple wire.

Blue it shall be, and yes, I have two blue wires on one terminal; as indicated by the (Pair) reference in my crude diagram.

Thanks a bunch!  Have saved me hours of experimentation and frustration ... .
