My 56 has a cracked intake.  I have a 55 and a 58 laying around.  Will these interchange?  If so, what are the differences?

OK,
I think the ports are smaller on the 55...I would go with the 58.

Jim,

The 1958 should be a direct bolt on intake; however as you stated the carb base plate is different.

If the crack can be easily reach why not fix it, low heat welding or strong epoxy welding should do it? Just a thought..!

Good luck..!

Jim,

Yeap, I beat you it is at either #4 or #6 intake..!

Heat is not much of a concern for the intake as it is for the exhaust manifold. If it just a crack around the tab it is possible to use a low heat rods and weld the area, or possible use an epoxy. There are several companies that sell special low heat rod to weld several types of metals including cast iron, or you could try a local welder that tackles cast iron.

A machine shop could also perform the repairs if they have the tools, you would also need to make sure the surfaces are straight as possible before installing it, 25’lb is not much torque but if the intake is warp these tabs are prone to crack.

Other members may have alternative solution..!

Good luck..!
