I just realized I never put the lower part of my panhard bar (I think that is what it is called) on and I can't find the parts.  I believe it was two rubber bushings with a bolt that went thru them but am not sure.  Does any one know where to get them?  I thought they would be on EBay, but I must be calling them the wrong name.
thanks

Matt,

You are correct. I have no idea what you are talking about and I have a 38 6519 Divider window.

is it the front stabalizer bar or the rear one?

It is the rear bar that starts up high on the drivers side and is down low on the passenger side.  it is parallel with the rear axel.

I have mine off right now on my 37-60 coupe. On this car the low side is on the left rear side. Both eyes use a two piece rubber bushing. both halves are slightly tapered so they meet when installed from each side of the "eye".  Then slipped on the fixed bolt. Of course there is an eye on each end of the rod. My bushings look new so they must come from somewhere . Have you checked Steele Rubber in Denver, North Carolina?

My book shows the bigger cars using a conventional sway bar in the rear. Somehow that seems like a better idea, but we work with what we have and I guess they work.

Folks,

On my 65 series, with a 90 series frame, it seems to have the same rear sway bar, but it is bigger than the smaller series.

Since the car is disassembled and I have another off a 38 60 special I can check further and send pictures if anyone is interested.

They must have changed these in 38 John because my 37 shop manual states only the 50 and 60 series had this weird cross stabilizer and all other series carried a normal type anti roll bar joined to the axle by links at each end.

Matt, check with Steele, Sofseal, Rubber the Right Way.

Do you have the old ones? How about their dimensions? If so, you can try looking for bushings at a speed shop like Summit Racing or from a manufacturer like Moog.

The contact information for the rubber suppliers is in the link in my signature.

Matt,
Have the same Panhard rod on my 37 LaSalle, and saved the bushing when I sent it out for painting (powder coating).  If you've lost yours and can't find a replacement, I'll get you the dimensions (I'm out of town for the moment).

I agree w/ Otto in that these are dead ringers for the bushings used in shock absorbers that have an "eye" arrangement for the mounting.  Often as not, the shocks wear out long before the bushings are toast, so you might also poke around in the trash bin at an auto or truck shop and pop a pair out a shock that has been tossed.  More likely a truck repair facility as I recall the pin that mounts to bar at either end is at least 5/8" diameter, on the large side for a car or PU.

Folks,

Pictures of the rear stabilizers. The top one is off my 1938 Cadillac  65 series, 5 passenger, divider window.
The bottom one is off a 1938 Cadillac 60 Special

It is the rectangular tube type.  I did lose the bushings when I had it apart (ten+ years ago).  I think the shock bushing idea is a good one.  Tomorrow night I will crawl under get the measurements.  Thanks for all the help.
