Parts of my '37 Cadillac V-12, the oil pan and transmission are ready for painting now following restoration. My question is can you provide the correct green color for the pan and transmission, and any other parts that should be painted in this green. I think the original green was made with a chrome yellow as part of the original formula, but I would like to have the "today's" correct version of this color and where we can purchase it.
Thank you,

Also, I wanted to ask if these '37 V-12 parts should be green, or could they also be painted black.
Thank you,

Ty,

All my information says the V8 oil pan and transmission were green. Not sure about the V12. Maybe Gene menne can help as he has a couple of untouched V12's he might refer to. As for the "Green" or "Chrome Green", again all my information has it that the green was changed sometime during the 1937 model year as the "Chrome" component of the "Chrome Green" became unavailable, was restricted in supply or just became too darn expensive. The Bill hirsch Cadillac Green certainly isn't the "Chrome Green" but it is now generally accepted as correct for late 1937 and beyond.

It is available from them at:

no opinion on the 37, but I can say that the green paint bill hirsch sold 30 years ago was a perfect match for what little of the original green paint remained on the engine in my 36 series 60.  Further, that my car came with a 37 V8 in it and the color looked the same to me.

Okay, thanks everyone,
It seems I must have confused the use of green. Apparently black is correct for the V 12, but green was used on the V 8.

I have just removed and cleaned the oil pan from a 1937 60 series- it was indeed green.

My 37 V12 was as original as you could hope for Ty and there was no green in that engine bay! All black as you say.
BTW, counting down the days till Hershey 8)

Hello Steve,
When was the last time you were at the annual October Hershey event? Things have certainly changed over the years for the better. No more walking in the mud and grass during rain.
