I have a question about the decal on the lid.  On my 56 60S, when I stripped off the paint from the oil filter canister lid, I found a decal or silk-screened "AC" lettering on the dome, in addition to the lettering on the periphery.  The dome lettering looked like the decal shown in the following ebay listing...

Is this correct for a 56?  Anyone else seen this?  The authenticity manual only mentions the peripheral decal....

My '56 only had the peripheral decal when I bought it and it had not been taken apart in the past. It had nothing like the one pictured.

Art,
I am NOT - in any way - an expert on '56s - or an expert on much of anything, else, really.  I do, however, have a pretty good memory and archive of photos of my fellow club members' cars.

That said, I've attached 3 photos of engine bays: a red '59 Eldo Seville, a blue '56 Series 62 Coupe, and a maroon '56 Eldo convertible.  All three cars are National winners in the AACA and CLC, so I'm sure their authenticity is darn good.

The '59 has the top label, while the '56's do not.  This doesn't prove anything - but it does seem consistent with all the info provided previously.

I hope this helps,
Pat

Art,

Does your decal read "S-8," or whatever the number is?  If so, would that not be a clue that it is incorrect.  My 55 uses a P-115 filter, not a S-8.
