One of my older project cars dripped oil on my driveway and left some ugly tell tale spots behind.   I've been trying to clean them off but with little success.    Has anybody found a product that will  help wash them away?

I have had a lot of successes with Brakleen, spraying it on, and using a clean rag, that gets dirty really fast, to rub it up.

Plus, I have also used extremely fine pulverised sand, as in the remnants of the Sand-blasting process to soak up the mess.   toss on, scrub in, and sweep up.

You could try a strong mix of dish soap and a scrub brush.  I have had that work with no damage to the asphalt.

Most stores now have some sort of purple degreaser cleaner.  They all seem pretty similar and contain lye. I have never tried it on the driveway, its way too late for mine now.   Thats my primary cleaner on car projects now days.  Most uses you need to at least go 4 water to 1 cleaner and that is often pretty strong.  Wear gloves unless you got some seriously calloused hands.

Every product I've seen/tried is for concrete.  Nothing really seems to work well on asphalt.   :-\

I have seen parking lot maintenance people use Portland Cement.
They rub it in with a push broom.
The fine dust absorbs the oil and then they just sweep it up
I haven't tried it but it's cheap and worth a try

When my driveway was asphalt I used floor dry first then hot soapy water. Now that it's concrete I use parts wash solvent (mineral spirits) then floor dry.  I have a neighbor that uses portland on both the asphalt and concrete portions. of his driveway  In the future I am going to try Simple Green.

Keep moving the car around so the whole thing matches then you won't have to worry about it.

I think Otto has a good plan that will work in my case with my 'new' diesel.

I’ve used kitty litter (wife calls it caddy litter) with good results, but you have to pound it into powder to get the most oil up off the driveway.

Be careful of any cleaner that is petroleum based.  It could dissolve the asphalt.

Been there done that.

Not a big surprise.   I imagine that is one reason gas stations have a concrete pad around the pumps.
