Could any one give me a suggestion on a reputable and knowledgeable individual or company to do a prepurchase inspection including photos in San Diego?  I am in NYC and an inspection in person is difficult at best.

I might respectfully suggest that a $300.00 air flight might be a good beginning to what I am sure will be a sizable investment.

I agree, the money spent on a flight out and back will be basically chump change compared to the price of the car.
Another suggestion I have would be to check the CLC HOME page, on the left you will find a list of links, one of them being "Regions", clicking on that will take you to a listing of all the CLC Regions in the US.  Aaand, lo and behold, you will see there is one in San Diego in the Western region!  The listing looks like this ---

San Diego:
Mike West, Director
(951) 677-5229
Visit our web site!

I would contact Mr. West and see if he or anyone in the San Diego area can look at the car for you.  You may find that Mr. West or another member has direct knowledge of the car and it may even be owned by a San Diego Regional member.

Hard to beat a personal inspection though --- with a knowledgeable person with you if you know little about the car you are buying.  Good luck.
