Hello ,
Thursday i got caught in a downpour and had to use my wipers , actually they worked pretty good , but the usual proplem when acelerlating they would bog down . However when i went to turn them off they kept on working . Here's the problem .. they will only turn off when i shut the engine off they even drop down to the park setting nicely .  when i restart the car they are ok  In other words i can only turn the wipers off when i shut down the engine . .It is not a big deal but i would like to get to the bottom of the problem some time when i am resting .

Thanks Bill

G'day Bill,

Doesn't the '57 have a vacuum operated pump in the sump, and therefore, when you shut the engine off, there might be sufficient vacuum to park the wipers, and the operation control is also disconnected when shut off?

When bogging down whilst accelerating sounds like the Vacuum Pump isn't operating correctly, and the wipers are only using "Manifold Vacuum"

My '57 Eldo Biarritz wipers will not "park".  They operate weakly so there is clearly a vacuum issue but I do not care because I will never drive in the rain but I would like them to stay down, not creep up?
