HELLO, I AM TRYING TO FIND OUT HOW MANY ELDORADO'S WERE PRODUCED WITH THE EFI (ELECTRONIC FUEL INJECTION) OPTION FROM 1977 TO 1978.

Wm Link

EFI was available on eldo's with the 500...but when they went to the 425, i think it was not available anymore on Eldorado's??? All other models w/425 could get it. Always Standard on the 350 Seville.

I have seen a few with the option.   There was even a small EFI badge on the dash right below the speedo cluster.

It was an option in 1977, but not 1978.  The engine code in the VIN is 'T'.  No production records are available as far as I know.  I would guess less than 1% of production would be a good guess.  Out of 49,000 plus 1977's, that's less than 500 units.

Seems like I read somewhere that the most of the big efi systems were sold in 76.  I have personally seen one 75, about a dozen 76's, and 1 77.  I would think for me to see that many the production would have had to be more like 1000's vs. 100's but that is just a guess.  Im not talking about seeing these at Cadillac car shows either, just out in the world.

I think the 78 shop manual mentions the EFI not being available in the Eldo.  Must have been an emissions certification thing they did not want to bother with for the last year of the body style, or maybe running out of parts and with DEFI around the corner did not want to do another run?
73 Eldo convert w/FiTech EFI, over 30 years of ownership and counting
Somewhat recently deceased daily drivers, 80 Eldo Diesel & 90 CDV
And other assorted stuff I keep buying for some reason

Speaking of rare fuel injected Eldos....

Here is a 77 forsale.     You can see that there is a FUEL INJECTION badge on the trunklid.   Plus if you look real close, you will see that there is another fuel injection badge just under the speedometer.

I have a 77 Biarritz with EFI. There is no emblem on the deck lid; just the small one under the speedometer. Everyone above is correct- you could get EFI on 77 Eldorado's but not 78's.

Lars,

Possibly your emblem is missing?

The 77 I had was injected and had the dash and trunk badges.

Hi Brian,

I recall this discussion coming up before.  Apparently some did not have the emblem on the dashboard and some did not have the trunk emblem.  That could be due to supplier problems with the emblems, aseembly workers forgetting to put the emblems on, or someone not wanting to make the effort to drill the holes.

Detroit in the 1970's...  Arrogance and ignorance of what was about to come.
