Hello all,
I just replaced my generator and regulator when the car is running at 600 rpm or less the generator light will come on dim. What would be the next thing to check ?

Bob,

Nothing.

The light should come on at low idle, with the car in gear.

Are you sure?

In all the cars I have owned, running Generators, if the light comes on at normal Idle Speed, the Voltage Regulator is out of adjustment.

Bruce,

One can always put a meter on the VR to see if it charges correctly. On my 1956 and 1953, in gear at idle, when hot, the light is dim or flickers - and both Voltage Regulators are set correctly. The cars charge as they are supposed to. One does not get a lot of output from a generator at idle.

Well that is my experience. How are you?

Agreed, all the generator equipped cars I had or worked on do the same thing, at idle there is no amp output, either 6 or 12v, that is why alternators were introduced.

Also agree. I have a 56 Coupe that does the same thing. Not all the time, but frequently. Especially on low idle. My car, as yours, probably idles seemingly extremely low when warmed up and it appears that they almost discharge at those RPM's. I've been checked out and everything is normal.
